OKLAHOMA CITY — Despite the Texas Tech softball team making it to the Women’s College World Series in each of his first two seasons in Lubbock, many are still finding out about Gerry Glasco.
Glasco has made quite the impression on the Red Raiders, navigating a moving landscape in the sport that has defined his family. Now it’s time to learn a bit more about the man who says his players are the ones carrying him to success.
How Gerry Glasco became Texas Tech softball head coach
Former head coach Craig Snider left Texas Tech to become an assistant at Tennessee. Texas Tech replaced him by hiring Gerry Glasco, who was the head coach of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, on June 20, 2024.
During his seven-year tenure at Louisiana, Glasco’s teams complied a .773 winning percentage and captured five regular-season Sun Belt championships, advancing to the Super Regionals in 2023. He even compiled the No. 1-rated high school recruiting class in the nation in 2021.
Gerry Glasco has roots in the SEC
Before taking over at Louisiana, Glasco served as an assistant at Georgia, Texas A&M and Auburn. He credits much of his knowledge of the game to Lu Harris-Champer, who coached Georgia for 20 years before retiring in 2021.
Gerry Glasco used to be a hunter tour guide
Before getting into softball (thanks in large part to his daughters, Tech pitching coach Tara Archibald and the late Geri Ann) Glasco used to lead hunting expeditions throughout the state of Texas and into Mexico. He had to give up that life when the cartels became too dangerous, which led him into pursuing a career in softball
