Where did Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed land on The SEC Podcasts SEC power rankings?

It’s understood that this early in the season, power rankings are based on limited game tape and inferior opponents for the majority of teams.

On Thursday, SEC Mike of That SEC Podcast gave his ranking of the 16 SEC quarterbacks after the first week of college football. SEC Mike admitted that he is really just going off the eye test and not anything they did the previous year, and he expects these rankings to change drastically throughout the season.

Based on what he saw, he wasn’t very high on the performance of Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed after watching the game twice. His main criticism was that Reed still appears to be all over the place and would really benefit from having two dynamic wide receivers who can do a lot with short passes.

“Now, am I sitting here saying Marcel Reed’s awful? No. But his stats, they do look damn impressive, don’t they? It’s because KC Conception, and he may be the best receiver in this conference right now. He is that good. And Mario Craver, he might be the most underrated pickup out of the transfer portal …. he was taking a lot of short passes and turning them into huge gains. So again, this is not me ripping apart Marcel Reed.”

It wasn’t solely based on having those two players, some of it just had to do with what he looked like compared to the competition he faced. Like the saying goes, “You can only play who is in front of you,” and in his opinion:

“…statistically looks great, but again, you were playing UTSA that had literally zero returning starters. You should look great against an opponent of that caliber…. We’ll see what he looks like this week, but I’m not completely sold on Marcel Reed.”

So, whether you agree or not with placing Marcel Reed at No. 12, at least it is on brand to start the season, and as mentioned earlier, these rankings will fluctuate as the season progresses.
