When does tax-free weekend in Texas start? Dates, what items quality

Tax-free weekend is back in Texas, meaning all clothing, backpacks and school supplies under $100 can be purchased without paying tax in the Lone Star State.

The 2025 sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, and runs through midnight Sunday, Aug.10. In Texas, you can buy qualifying items in-store, online, by telephone, mail, custom order, or any other means, according to the Texas Comptroller website.

Yes, online purchases for qualifying items are tax free.

Is Amazon tax-free this weekend?

Sales tax holidays may be applied to sales sold on Amazon.com and its affiliates, according to Amazon’s website.

Tax may still be calculated on items that do not qualify, including those with threshold limits, bundles, orders placed before the holiday starts, or specific items not included in the holiday.

Does tax-free weekend apply to electronics?

Some electronics, such as calculators and writing tablets, do qualify, but keep in mind items must be under $100. Click here for the full list of school supplies covered. Computers do not qualify.
