After falling just a few wins short of a national title, the Texas Longhorns have been busy reshaping their roster over the last few months. That netted them a few pieces through the transfer portal, including former Arizona State running back Raleek Brown. In his first season in Austin, Brown will look to carve out an unforgettable legacy.
During his college career, Brown has recorded 1,426 running yards on 240 carries for USC and Arizona State. The California native has also been a threat in the passing game with 438 receiving yards on 56 receptions. Keeping Brown out of the end zone has been hard, as he has 13 total touchdowns.
In Brown, the Longhorns are getting a player coming off the best season of his college career. In his final season as a Sun Devil, Brown set career-highs in rushing yards with 1,141 yards, carries with 186, and rushing touchdowns with four. Brown’s breakout campaign is partly why Texas made adding him a priority as soon as he decided to look for a new home.
Although Brown has high expectations, he will have to battle for touches. The Longhorns’ running back room includes Hollywood Smothers, Derrek Cooper, James Simon, Michael Terry III, and Jett Walker. Along with Arch Manning and a talented wide receiver group, the Texas offense will be hard to stop.
If the Longhorns’ newest weapon can replicate his success from the 2025 campaign, then he will be hard to keep out of the lineup. He can be explosive in the open field and will have a very talented offensive line blocking for him. That combination could lead to another 1,000-yard season for Brown.
With only one year of eligibility remaining, Brown will be highly motivated to put his name on the map with the NFL draft looming. The Longhorns hope those circumstances bring out the best in Brown’s game and provide plenty of unforgettable moments.
