As the Texas winter and spring high school sports season marches on, The Standard-Times will continue accepting nominations for City National Bank Athlete of the Week throughout the year.
Plenty of action and outstanding performances remain in the high school sports season as local track teams compete in the postseason and other spring sports ramp up UIL playoff competition.
The Standard-Times will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Monday, and several standouts were nominated for the most recent City National Bank Athlete of the Week award.
The poll starts every Monday and runs until 11 a.m. Thursday, and the winner will be announced shortly after.
This week’s nominees
Emily Austin, Forsan softball – She went four of five at the plate with four RBIs, two runs and two doubles in a win over Sonora.
Ty DeBusk, Christoval baseball – He went three of three from the plate with three runs and two RBIs in a 14-0 win over Miles.
Carson Edwards, Central boys gymnastics – He finished seventh in the all-around at the state gymnastics meet after an eighth-place finish in the rings, 10th in the floor and in the high bar.
Allison Garnett, Central girls gymnastics – She finished seventh in the all-around at the state gymnastics meet after a fifth-place finish in the uneven bars.
Analia Hinojosa, Big Spring softball – She went four for four at the plate with six RBIs, four runs, one double and one home run in a win over Stephenville.
Mia Obehaus, Colorado City softball – In five innings pitched, she gave up one hit and one walk with 10 strikeouts in a 10-0 win over Ozona.
Kellan Oliver, Wall baseball – In seven innings pitched, he gave up one earned run and one walk with nine strikeouts in a 2-1 win over Jim Ned.
Blakely Rodgers, Coahoma softball – She went two of two from the plate with three runs, two RBIs and one home run in a 17-0 win against Anthony.

How to nominate for next week’s award
Nominations for next week’s award are due by 5 p.m. every Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@gosanangelo.com.
Students participating in all varsity sports are eligible for nomination. Please include an athlete’s statistics/times from a single game/event in an email to the San Angelo Standard-Times.
Athletes who win Athlete of the Week cannot win the award twice for the same sport. An athlete can be nominated in a different sport, but can’t win the award more than three times in a school year.
