After 28 years of honoring local volunteers and leaders at the annual Cornucopia Luncheon, the Volunteer Center of Lubbock is retiring the event and the Get Involved Awards it featured, according to a news release.
In its place, the Center is launching two new ways to recognize service across the South Plains:
· Stories for Good, a new monthly social media series debuting in August 2025.
· The Pink Tie Gala, an annual fundraising event, happening on Nov. 7, 2025
“The Cornucopia Luncheon has been a meaningful part of our story, but we’re excited to expand access and recognition in new ways,” said Emily Smith, Executive Director. “There are so many volunteers doing incredible work who deserve to be seen and celebrated.”
Stories for Good will highlight local individuals, groups, and businesses who make a difference through service, big or small. Community members can nominate someone by submitting a short blurb and photo using this form: https://forms.gle/3ZdSAbJbnxHFERBcA
The Pink Tie Gala will allow the community to directly support volunteerism and leadership while recognizing a limited number of honorees selected by Volunteer Center staff and board. Stories for Good submissions may help guide those selections.
“This transition lets us tell more stories, reach more people, and celebrate service all year long,” said Smith.
Follow the Volunteer Center on social media to see each month’s featured story and join us in celebrating the people who make Lubbock stronger. To learn more about the Pink Tie Gala, visit www.volunteerlubbock.org/gala.
