Texas A&M (37-12, 16-10 SEC) dropped three spots in USA TODAY Sports’ top 25 after falling to Ole Miss on the road last weekend, but has yet to be swept in SEC play after salvaging an 18-5 win during Saturday’s doubleheader. Needing to get healthy, freshmen infielders Nico Partida and Boston Kellner have now missed multiple games, while Kellner is on track to possibly return this weekend.
Set to host No. 13 Mississippi State for the final regular season series before the SEC Tournament, the Aggies remain in good position to earn a national seed in the NCAA Tournament, but likely need to win this weekend’s series to avoid spiraling after consecutive SEC series losses.
Heading back to Blue Bell Park, second-year coach Mike Earley is well aware that defeating the Bulldogs is the key to earning a double-bye in the SEC Tournament to rest and recover before Selection Sunday. Right now, the Aggies are widely selected to host a Regional regardless of this weekend’s outcome, and are hovering between the 10-12 seed range.
On Tuesday, USA TODAY Sports released its latest NCAA Tournament projections, where Texas A&M holds the No. 11 seed. Take a look below for the full field of 68.
