Over the past couple of weeks, Brendan Sorsby has experienced a lot of rejection in his life.
The NCAA said “no.” The Texas Tech Red Raiders agreed to mutually part ways with the Cincinnati transfer. The NFL declined his application. The Canadian Football League gave a polite “no, thank you.” After a string of dismissals, Sorsby now sits, a couple of months ahead of what would have been his senior year in college, with very few options ahead of him as far as playing football at a high level goes.
However, it appears that one final avenue remains.
Over the past week, the United Football League appears to have kept its door open to Sorsby, who admitted earlier this year to a widespread gambling issue, which ultimately led him to place thousands of bets over the past few years, including on his own team.
“The UFL is the league of opportunity,” UFL co-owner Mike Repole posted on X. “We created our Regional Player Initiative to keep great players closer to home, closer to their fans, and on the field.” He continued: “Have your people call my people!!!!!”
That certainly seems like an invite to join the league. If Sorsby hopes to play competitive football this year, it appears that the UFL is the last remaining option. Should he decide not to join the league, he would have the next several months to prepare for the upcoming 2027 NFL Draft on his own time, and “take his medicine,” as many would say.
While the UFL is far less prestigious than the NFL, or even Texas Tech, it would allow Sorsby to stay fresh and avoid exiting the limelight over the next year. It would also give the UFL a nice ratings bump, as fans look to follow the major story. We will see what he decides to do in the coming weeks.
