It was no surprise that star starting left tackle Andrew Thomas was placed on the New York Giants inactive list ahead of Sunday’s early kickoff against the Dallas Cowboys. Thomas has been nursing his injury, was out in Week 1 and was labeled Doubtful on Friday.
That means that James Hudson III knew he was in line for another start in Week 2. It did not appear that he was actually ready to play. The Giants scored three points on their opening drive, and if one wasn’t watching the game they might think it went well. It absolutely didn’t, and it was almost all due to Hudson’s horrible play.
The fifth-year veteran allowed a sack and committed not one, not two, not three, but four penalties on the opening drive. At one point it seemed like head coach Brian Daboll was pulling him off the field, but he returned quickly, just to commit another penalty. Hudson put the team in a 3rd-and-25 situation, which QB Russell WIlson escaped, launching a 51-yard completion down to the Cowboys’ two-yard line.
But Wandale Robison’s big game was muted by a personal foul call on Hudson. The Giants couldn’t overcome that one, and ended the drive with a successful field goal attempt.
