Track March Madness Texas teams in 2026 NCAA men's basketball tournaments

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament’s Selection Sunday is fast approaching, with a number of the 68 spots in the field already claimed.

Texas and SMU, on the other hand, seemed destined to wait until Sunday to learn their fates, as both are squarely on the bubble. Houston, Texas Tech, TCU, and, to a lesser extent, Texas A&M are in good shape and waiting to learn where they are headed.

Wait: Prairie View made it? It did! Here is a rundown of where Texas teams (and the University of New Mexico) stand less than a week before the dance begins.

When is Selection Sunday for March Madness 2026?

The NCAA selection show will be at 4 p.m. MT/5 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 15. It will be shown on CBS. The women’s selection show will be at 6 p.m. MT/7 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 15.

Did Texas teams automatically make March Madness 2026?

Yes, and not the one you think. Prairie View A&M had one way in: It had to have a winning record. That looked unlikely when they had a 12-17 record with two games left in the regular season. The Panthers won those last two, swept four games in the SWAC tournament as a No. 8 seed and are marching on to Dayton. They will be in a First Four game either Tuesday or Wednesday.
