The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office is warning farmers to be on the lookout for copper wire thefts from irrigation pivots, a media release said.
Investigators believe the thefts most likely occurred at night, but the exact times are unknown.
In addition, the TGSO had no suspect or vehicle information available as of Monday, according to the media release.
The Sheriff’s Office urges farmers and landowners to inspect their irrigation pivot systems for damage — especially to the main electrical cable located on top of the pivot, the media release said.
“Damage or theft of these components can result in costly repairs and disrupt irrigation operations during the growing season,” the SO said in the media release.
Anyone discovering damage to an irrigation pivot or observing suspicious or unusual activity in agricultural fields —especially at night — is encouraged to contact the TG Sheriff’s Office immediately, the SO said.
If you determine that your irrigation pivot has been damaged or that copper wire has been stolen, calling the TGSO at 325-655-8111 to file a report.
Anyone with information about the copper wire thefts or possible suspects should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 325-655-8111 and ask to speak with Sgt. Investigator Frank Hernandez.
“The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the public’s assistance and encourages the agricultural community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly,” the SO said in the media release.
