What are you doing this weekend? That can be one of the most anticipated, and sometimes dreaded, question that awaits us all at the conclusion of a busy week.
While the weekend finally provides us with that much-needed me time, it can sometimes be daunting trying to figure out exactly what is going on to participate in.
That’s why we did the work for you and rounded up some of the top local events happening here in Abilene.
Here are three local events you won’t want to miss.
Western Heritage Classic
Experience the cowboy way of life this weekend at Abilene’s annual Western Heritage Classic from Thursday to Sunday at the Taylor County Expo Center, 1700 Texas Highway 36.
This weekend event celebrates the western heritage and ranching history of West Texas with a plethora of exciting cowboy events, including the world’s largest bit and spur show, a chuckwagon cook-off, horse sale, cowboy poetry and so much more.
Dust off your boots and get ready to witness real cowboys and ranchers compete in the Ranch Rodeo, or watch history being made at the Ranch Horse Association of America World Finals, all happening this weekend at the Western Heritage Classic.

Tristan Roberson at the Big Country Beer Garden
Come support rising country music star, Tristan Roberson, as he makes his debut performance at the Big Country Beer Garden, 806 S. Second St., on Friday.
Named as the 2025 Emerging Artist of the Year by the Texas Country Music Awards, the Frisco native is taking the red dirt country music scene by force at only 18 years old.
The beer garden opens at 7 p.m., and live music begins at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance online for $10 or at the door for $15. There is also an option to reserve a table for four for $80.
Mother’s Day Brunch
It’s officially Mother’s Day weekend, and there is no better way to celebrate than by grabbing the important ladies in your life and enjoying a chef-crafted buffet in the heart of downtown Abilene.
Hosted by Smokehouse Abilene, 500 Cypress St, on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., this special event will feature signature Smokehouse Abilene dishes and southern favorites with refreshing mimosas to toast to the occasion.
The menu includes assorted pastries, muffins, breakfast cakes and breads, Texas smoked brisket, prime rib, French toast casserole, Florentine quiche, and many more handcrafted dishes.
More information, the menu and ticket pricing can be found on the event website.
