This Lubbock-area team went undefeated in state 7-on-7 pool play

The 7-on-7 football state tournament will continue with bracket play Friday, June 26, and one Lubbock-area squad is heading in with plenty of momentum.

Seminole went undefeated to win its pool on the opening day at Veterans Park in College Station. That included wins over West Columbia (16-13), Austin LBJ (25-7) and Lindale (21-19). Seminole plays West Orange-Stark at 8:45 a.m. Friday in the first round of the Division II championship bracket.

The Mustangs finished fourth in Pool H, which included Lubbock Christian. The Eagles went 2-1 on Thursday but got third place on tiebreakers. Cuero topped the pool, followed by Lorena.

LCHS beat WO-S 19-18 to start the day, followed by a 34-32 loss to Cuero. Lorena edged the Eagles 20-13 in the finale. LCHS takes on Austin LBJ in the opening round.

Olton was the Lubbock area’s only other state qualifier. The Mustangs, competing in D-III, went 0-3 in pool play. That included losses to De Leon (32-20), West Rusk (30-19) and Van Vleck (18-12).

Olton will face Altair Rice at 8 a.m. Friday in the first round of bracket play.
