Texas Tech vs BYU Baseball: How to watch, stream the home finale

Time is up. Not only is it the last homestand for the Texas Tech baseball team in 2026, but if they want to extend their season into the Big 12 tournament, they have to end their conference series losing streak. Their current six-series losing streak is the longest since 2013.

After closing out the Baylor series with a win, the Red Raiders snapped a nine-game conference losing streak, tying the program record in the history of the Big 12. The Red Raiders (24-24, 7-17 in the Big 12) welcome the BYU Cougars (24-23, 12-12) to Lubbock starting Thursday for a three-game set. If the Red Raiders can take at least two of three from the Cougars, it would be their first series win since mid-March against first-place Kansas.

Deciding factor

To ask the pitchers to be a deciding factor in the biggest home stand of the season would be unreasonable. Especially factoring in that BYU’s first two announced starters have ERAs of 5.66 and 7.26. Neither team is rolling out a starter with expectations of locking down either team’s bats. So for the Red Raiders, this series is going to fall on the shoulders of the team’s best player, Logan Hughes. After leading the Big 12 in total home runs (19) in 2025, he has only gotten better in 2026. His Big 12 numbers in 2025 included 11 home runs, 30 RBIs, and a slash line of .376/.436/.760.

His numbers with six Big 12 games remaining include 6 home runs, 21 RBIs, and slashing .394/.486/.670. Last year, Hughes was projected in the late Second Round of the 2026 MLB Draft. But with Hughes showing more improvement, he is now getting buzz as a first-round pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. Hughes has been hitting the ball well all season, but has been especially hot over his last 12 games. After his home run that ignited the win over DBU, he has now homered in back-to-back contests, back-to-back home games, and five times in his last 12 games overall. Hughes will be the tone-setter for this offense as the Red Raiders aim to out-slug BYU to keep hold of that last Big 12 tournament ticket.

Texas Tech players to be honored for Senior Day

On Saturday, the Red Raiders will honor their five seniors for senior day. They include:

Lopez, or T-Lo as many might know him, will finish as one of the most decorated infielders in Texas Tech history. Lopez has now played in 211 career games, recorded 775 at-bats, 170 runs scored, and 233 total hits. He currently is sixth all-time in hits, but three more over the next six games would put him in fifth place. Assuming Lopez stays healthy to close out the last six games, he would move into third place on the all-time games list. He is already just one of four players in program history to reach 210 career hits and 200 games. If Lopez wants to extend his career after these six games, he is going to need to help out with Hughes in bringing their best offensive performances of the season to the homestand.
