The transfer portal officially opened for college baseball on Monday, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders have already lost four players from the 2026 team. The latest to enter his name is freshman shortstop Linkin Garcia, according to Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.
Garcia had an excellent first season in Lubbock and was named to the Big-12 All-Freshman Team after hitting .338 with four home runs, 21 doubles, and 59 RBI. The Newport Beach, California, native had a .489 slugging percentage and a .387 on-base percentage, scoring 53 runs with 19 walks against 37 strikeouts.
The 6-foot-5, 218-pounder has 24 multi-hit games and went hitless just eight times in his only season at Texas Tech. Garcia started all 55 games for the Red Raiders and made nine errors in 160 chances in the field, finishing with a .944 fielding percentage.
He was expected to be a major part of Texas Tech’s roster for the 2027 season and will have three seasons of eligibility at his next school, even if he will likely only be there for one. Garcia will be eligible for the 2027 MLB Draft as a sophomore and is considered one of the top prospects in college
