Texas Tech shuts out Baylor 5-0 behind Kaitlyn Terry’s dominance

The Lady Raiders opened the series with dominance on Thursday night, shutting out the Baylor Bears 5-0 at Tracy Sellers Field. From first pitch to last out, Texas Tech dominated behind a commanding performance from ace Kaitlyn Terry. Leaning on elite pitching, disciplined at-bats, and timely power, Texas Tech now moves to 49-4 overall and 20-2 in conference play.

Terry controlled the game from the mound, while Jasmyn Burns delivered the decisive blow late. It was calculated, efficient, and relentless. Texas Tech dictated the tempo all night, never allowing Baylor the chance to catch up.

KT Sets the Tone

When your ace on the mound is dealing like this, the rest of the game quickly becomes inevitable. Kaitlyn Terry delivered a surgical performance, throwing seven innings, allowing one hit and one walk, and striking out nine. She threw 102 pitches, the first time she has crossed the 100 mark this season, and looked stronger as the game progressed.

Now 21-1 on the year, Terry logged her sixth shutout of the season, as she continues to anchor a Texas Tech team that is trending like a postseason problem no one wants to solve.

Patience Early, Power Late

Texas Tech seemed to outmaneuver Baylor with hits all night. The Red Raiders drew eight walks and never struck out, forcing the Bears’ defense to crack. The scoring started modestly, but by the second inning, the bases were loaded, and Taylor Pannell lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Jackie Lis for a 1-0 lead.

From there, it was a slow squeeze until the end. In the fourth inning, Mia Williams, who continues to rewrite the program record book, set the table again. It was her 18th double of the season that moved her into second all-time in single season doubles at Texas Tech. She now trails only Kim Martinez’s record of 21 in 1997. Lauren Allred followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0 on the night.

The Knockout Swing

In the sixth inning, Jasmyn Burns stepped in and didn’t waste any time, launching the first pitch to her over the right field fence. A three-run homer and her 14th of the season.

Burns now sits at 44 RBIs on the year, quietly building one of the most productive offensive seasons in the conference.

Impact Under the Radar

Jackie Lis didn’t record a hit; however, she did make an impact and may have been the most disruptive player on the field. With three walks and two runs scored, she forced Baylor to play uncomfortable all night.

Pannell added a 2-for-2 performance with an RBI, while Allred chipped in with timely production.

The Bottom Line

Texas Tech leveraged patience, executed in key moments, and let their ace do the rest, successfully shutting out Baylor in Game 1. The Red Raiders will look to lock down the series on Friday at 6 p.m.
