The NCAA is putting its foot down.
On Tuesday afternoon, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the eligibility reinstatement request from Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby has officially been denied by the NCAA, ruling him ineligible for the 2026 season.
Sorsby was originally ruled ineligible after it came out that he was taking a leave of absence from the team due to a gambling addiction that had spanned several years. He is accused of placing thousands of wagers, including on college football games, some of which allegedly involved his own team. The activity reportedly dates back to his time at Indiana in 2022.
Sorsby has completed his 35-day in-patient rehab for his gambling addiction, and is set to return to campus in Lubbock later this month.
While the NCAA has denied Sorsby’s request, the book is not closed just yet. Sorsby is now seeking a temporary injunction against the NCAA’s ruling that he is ineligible. If he is granted the injunction, it would allow him to play out the 2026 college football season while the NCAA’s investigation process plays out.
The hearing for that injunction has been set for June 1 in Lubbock. Should Sorsby not be granted the injunction, he would still have time to enter the NFL supplemental draft on June 22.
