The NCAA transfer portal for college baseball players opens Tuesday, June 2, and one of the first in for the Texas Tech baseball team is sure to be one of the biggest losses all month.
Infielder Linkin Garcia, a member of the Big 12’s all-freshman team as voted on by coaches, will have his name entered into the portal, a Tech official said Monday, June 1, confirming national reports.
Garcia batted .338 this season with 4 home runs and 59 runs batted in. The latter figure was third-best on the team. Second baseman Tracer Lopez and Garcia share the Big 12 lead with 21 doubles.
Garcia, 6-foot-5 and 218 pounds, started all 55 games in the Red Raiders’ 27-28 season, making 30 starts at shortstop and 25 at third base.
Corner infielder Hollis Porter and shortstop-third baseman Luke Orfi will have their names in the portal, a Tech official said. Both were first-year transfers into the program and both left the team early in the season, Orfi having played in seven games and Porter in only four.
Porter was a much-anticipated transfer portal addition after he had a 21-homer, 64-RBIs season for Maryland in 2025.
