Texas Longhorns softball team nominated for two ESPYs

The 2026 season was historic for the Texas Longhorns softball team. UT won its second consecutive national title at the Women’s College World Series. Teagan Kavan cemented here name among the great pitchers in NCAA softball history. Now, the team is up for two ESPY Awards.

The ESPY Awards, or the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards, have been given annually by ESPN since 1993. The awards recognize individual and team achievements each year. They were sort of like the Oscars for sports.

This year, the Texas softball team is nominated for two awards. UT is nominated for “Best Team” and Teagan Kavan is up for “Best Championship Performance.”

In the “Best Championship Performance” category, Kavan is up against some heavy hitters. Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks, Aerin Frankel of the USA Women’s Hockey team and Connor Hellebuyck of the USA Men’s Hockey team are nominated for the same award.

For “Best Team,” Texas faces an expanded list of nominees. They include, WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, baseball’s LA Dodgers, Indianna in college football, the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL, the New York Knicks from the NBA, Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks and both the men’s and women’s Olympic hockey teams.

The ESPYs are awarded based on fan vote. So you have an opportunity to vote for the softball nominations until July 15, 2026 at 11 a.m. CT.
