Texas Longhorns baseball adds to 2027 class with pitcher/outfielder

A busy week for Longhorns baseball continued on Saturday night. The Longhorns had a reason to celebrate, securing a commitment from 2027 recruit RHP/ OF JJ Utash. As the Longhorns look to build on one of their best seasons in recent memory, they are creating an impressive pipeline of talent.

In Utash, the Longhorns are getting a pitcher whose fastball nearly reaches 90 miles per hour. He can also hit for power, making him a threat regardless of whether he is on the mound or at the plate. Due to his unique skillset, Utash is one of the top 40 players in his class.

During his high school career, Utash has been a hits machine. In 53 games, the New Mexico native has posted a .425 batting average while driving in 63 runs. The newest Longhorn has also shown some power with 34 extra base hits, including 16 doubles. On the mound, Utash has been just as impressive.

The talented righty has posted a 2.57 ERA in 20 appearances. He has also shown that he has good enough stuff to miss bats with 109 strikeouts in 79 innings. Those numbers have been encouraging for Texas as Utash still has two years to refine his game before making his college debut.

While fans will have to wait a while for Utash to don the burnt orange, he has the makings of a future star. He will also be part of a roster full of talent in one of the best conferences in the nation. Over the last few weeks, the Longhorns have also gotten commitments from RHP Becket Berg and Catcher Lee Holt. With more holes to fill, Jim Schlossnagle has a busy offseason ahead.

As Utash finishes out his high school career, he will be a player to watch with a promising future ahead of him.
