Texas governor candidates rally voters before early voting

Democratic candidate for Texas governor Gina Hinojosa reminded voters that other races are still in the runoff phase as he rallied blue votes.

Hinojosa reminded Texans on Monday, May 18, that much is at stake on the first day of early voting in the Texas primary runoff elections.

“No matter who wins in the Republican primaries next Tuesday, they will be saddled with the affordability crisis that the Greg Abbott corruption tax has forced on every Texas family,” she said in a news release. “In election after election this year, Texans have turned out in record numbers to reject Abbott’s agenda, because he and his donors have nothing to offer but higher prices, shuttered neighborhood schools, and a government that works for the billionaire class.”

Hinojosa again pointed to recent polling by Texas Public Opinion Research showing the Texas governor’s race within 5 points, with Hinojosa winning independents, moderates, Latinos, and every key demographic Abbott needs to hold.

Gov. Greg Abbott rallies ahead of early voting

Gov. Greg Abbott also rallied conservative voters in a campaign stop in Houston, where he underscored that Texas is better with strong Republican values.

On Monday, May 18, the governor held a rally in Houston ahead of early voting in Texas primary runoff elections. Abbott was joined by a host of Republican candidates.

“We need every conservative to bank their vote and unite behind Republican candidates ahead of this year’s November elections—the stakes have never been higher,” Abbott said. “We are fighting to keep Texas safe, keep Texas conservative, and keep Texas the number one state in America. That means electing Republican leaders who will back the blue, lock up dangerous criminals, secure our communities.”

He also noted the state must still deliver meaningful property tax relief, which he has been campaigning on in recent days.
