One man has died Wednesday after a crash with a tractor-trailer in Garza County, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
At 7:26 a.m. Wednesday, first responders arrived to the intersection of U.S. 84 and FM 211 to a reported crash between a 2003 Dodge pickup and a 2025 Western Star truck-tractor, towing a semi-trailer. Investigators believe both vehicles drove northwest on US 84, with the pickup in the right lane. For reasons unknown, according to the report, the pickup drifted into the left lane, hitting the semi. The two collided with the cable barrier after drifting into the center median.
The pickup’s driver, Richard Baack, 77, of Willow Park, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured, according to the release. Both were wearing seatbelts. The weather was clear and roads were dry.
Other factors contributing to the crash were not immediately clear as the investigation is ongoing.
