No. 9 Texas A&M (39-13, 18-11 SEC) heads into the SEC Tournament after nearly a full week away from the diamond, having ended the regular season by winning two of three games vs. Mississippi State, looking more and more like the team that won five consecutive SEC series, including road wins over LSU and Florida.
However, after missing last weekend’s series, LHP Aiden Sims will work out in the bullpen, but according to second-year coach Michael Earley, the sophomore ace will not take the mound, needing to be 100% before heading to the NCAA Tournament. However, in an emergency situation, Sims could be available, but it’s highly doubtful we’ll see him this weekend.
On Thursday, less than 24 hours before the Aggies face Auburn in the SEC Tourament Quarterfinals on Friday night, the latest injury report revealed that Aiden Sims is questionable, with a 50% chance to play, which is good news before the NCAA Tournament, while freshman third baseman Nico Partida is now probable to take the filed, giving his a 75% chance to play after missing last weekend’s series outside of a brief DH spot at the plate.
If Partida returns to the lineup, star junior Gavin Grahovac will return to first base, where he previously thrived before taking over at third, and provide the Aggie offense with an immediate jolt, especially if the pitching rotation continues to force Texas A&M to respond at the plate each inning.
Texas A&M will face Auburn on Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT, and the game will air on the SEC Network.
