Texas A&M softball dominates Kentucky for another SEC series win

The No. 15 Texas A&M softball team continued its strong start to conference play, clinching a second consecutive SEC series with back‑to‑back wins over Kentucky in front of an energized crowd at Davis Diamond.

The Aggies handled business exactly the way a top‑25 program should against an unranked opponent, outscoring the Wildcats 17–3 across the first two games, including a run‑rule victory in Friday’s opener. One of A&M’s biggest inconsistencies this season has been cashing in with runners on, but the Aggies flipped that script in a big way this weekend.

Game 1: Werk’s walk-off grand slam ignites the series

The opener started quietly with two scoreless innings before the Aggies’ offense found its rhythm, plating six runs over the next three frames to build a 6–3 lead entering the bottom of the sixth.

With two runners aboard and Mya Perez standing in the batter’s box, Kentucky elected to intentionally walk her—loading the bases for Micaela Werk. The decision backfired immediately. After battling through an eight‑pitch full count, Werk launched a walk‑off grand slam off the right‑center wall, sealing a run‑rule victory and setting the tone for the weekend.

Game 2: Aggies jump out early, and Edwards puts them away late

Saturday’s matchup unfolded in the opposite fashion, with Texas A&M exploding for four runs in the first inning.

What looked like a runaway quickly tightened as Kentucky’s pitching and defense settled in, holding A&M scoreless for four straight innings. The Wildcats clawed back with a solo home run and a double to start the sixth, eventually bringing the tying run to the plate.

A&M’s defense responded with level-headed poise. A strikeout followed by a highlight‑reel play from Kennedy Powell, who gloved a hard-hit ball and fired to first to end the threat.

In the bottom half, back‑to‑back singles set the stage for Tallen Edwards, who crushed a pitch over the left‑center wall to extend the lead to 7–1. Kentucky went down in order in the seventh, securing the Aggies’ second SEC series win of the season.
