One of the top prospects in the 2028 recruiting class has reclassified to the 2027 cycle, as five-star cornerback A’mir Sears has set his commitment date for Friday, July 31, and, while the blue-chip defensive back has yet to announce his final teams, Miami, Texas A&M, and LSU are the programs to watch heading into his commitment at the end of the week.
Similar to 2027 five-star cornerback John Meredith reclassifying to the 2026 class and joining the Texas Longhorns roster this fall, Texas A&M is looking to land one more cornerback after five-star CB Raylaun Henry shut down his recruitment earlier this year. Another name to watch is five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who, after committing to South Carolina, stated that his recruitment was “long from over,” which provided the Aggies an opening this fall.
A’mir Sears checks every box from size at 6’1″ to his natural ability in man coverage and elite athleticism, nationally regarded as the most polished prospect in Florida after recording three interceptions and 11 pass breakups during his 2025 sophomore season.
All three programs, including Texas A&M, have coaching staffs in place to help Sears reach his NFL potential in two to three seasons, and, according to several sources, including On3’s Hunter Shelton, Miami looks like the frontrunner based on his earlier quote this month.
“They have coaches that actually recruit. A lot of these schools are not recruiting honestly. They just send letters and generic texts. Miami has a real recruiting department just like LSU, Texas A&M and others as well.”
Even if Sears ends up committing to Miami on Friday, Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and cornerbacks coach Bryant Gross-Armiento have a legitimate shot to flip his commitment this fall, especially if the Aggies match last season’s success in Kyle Field during the 2026 season, which could include Sears attending one of the program’s seven home games.
