Texas A&M coach Bucky McMillan is going into his second season with plenty of momentum after leading his first roster to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament, led by senior forward Rashaun Agee and a veteran lineup, mostly from the transfer portal. This offseason, McMillan and his staff have rebuilt the roster through the portal, while several key starters/reserves, including Mackenzie Mgbako, have returned.
On the recruiting trail, McMillan has already landed a commitment from 2027 four-star guard Chase Richardson, who is considered one of the top guards in the cycle with elite potential. In the 2028 class, the Aggies have reportedly offered four-star guard Isaac Smith out of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.
Standing 6’6″ and 175 pounds, Smith is quickly becoming one of the top offensive playmakers in the cycle, and plays at a fast pace that fits what McMillan is looking for scheme-wise. During his 2025-2026 sophomore season, Smith averaged 17.8 points per game, 6.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 steals, leading his team in nearly every category.
While his mid-range shooting skill set stands out, Smith is also slowly but surely becoming a reliable three-point threat and an impressive defender with the size to guard multiple positions. Smith is just the first of many players McMillan and his staff are targeting, aiming to build the program through recruiting rather than relying on the transfer portal to replenish the roster year after year.
According to Rivals, Isaac Smith is currently positioned as the 38th-ranked prospect in the 2028 class, the 11th-ranked small forward, and the 2nd-ranked prospect in Virginia.
