Texas A&M’s 2025 season kicked off last Saturday against UTSA, and while the game was close at the start of the third quarter, the Aggies ran away in the second half to secure a 42-24 opening-season win, which is all that matters at the end of the day.
Outside of the Aggies’ poor run defense in the first half, which coach Mike Elko believes can be fixed during practice, starting quarterback Marcel Reed produced a career day through the air, completing 22/34 for 289 yards and four touchdowns, while transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver combined fr 194 receiving yards and four touchdowns, including Concepcion’s electric 80-yard punt return to start the game.
Out of the 17 SEC teams that took the field last weekend, No. 1 Texas’s 14-7 loss to Ohio State, combined with Alabama’s embarrassing 31-17 road loss to Florida State, was the only game in the conference to drop its first game of the year.
While some predicted the Longhorns to fall on the road against the defending National Champions, Alabama’s loss to the Seminoles has only increased the noise surrounding second-year head coach Kalen DeBoer’s future with the program.
Other teams that impressed last week include LSU, Miami (FL), Iowa State, and South Carolina, who all moved up in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll heading into Week 2. Ahead of Texas A&M vs. Utah State on Saturday afternoon, here are the updated US LBM Coaches Poll Top 25.
