The offseason can’t be all grind. Sometimes, you need to lighten the mood with a little friendly competition. On Wednesday, the Texas A&M softball and football teams teamed up for a “Celebrity Softball Game” at Davis Diamond.
After warmups, the day kicked off with an entertaining Home Run Derby featuring star softball players Mya Perez and KK Dement, going head-to-head with football standouts like TE Kiotti Armstrong, DE Marco Jones, and WR KC Concepcion.
Armstrong started things off with a bang, launching 17 home runs to set the early pace. But Marco Jones punched his ticket to the finals with 18 long balls, where he faced off with All-American Mya Perez, who had earlier knocked out Armstrong in the second round. In a thrilling finale, Perez, one of the country’s top hitters, came out on top to claim the crown.
Next up was an exciting back-and-forth showdown between Team White and Team Maroon. Highlights included Armstrong’s early two-run homer, Terry Bussey going 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs, and pitchers Sydney Lessentine and Kate Munnerlyn each recording a strikeout.
Perhaps the most memorable moment came when head coach Mike Elko showed off surprising speed with an infield “single,” advancing to second base on an error and driving in a run.
The fun afternoon ended in epic fashion. A walk-off home run from long snapper Jacob Graham sealed a 14–12 win for Team Maroon. The inaugural Celebrity Softball Game proved to be a hit and one that Aggieland hopes becomes a new tradition.
