Texas A&M baseball ranked 5th nationally in Quad 1 wins

Texas A&M (36-10, 15-6 SEC) stays put at No. 7 in USA TODAY Sports’s Top 25 after dropping its first SEC series in over a month after falling to No. 8 Auburn at home, dorpping both games during Saturday’s doubleheader, while salvaging Sunday’s final game, earning a close 4-3 victory to head into the week on a win streak.

Before hosting Prairie View A&M on Tuesday night, the Aggies are a lock for the NCAA Tournament, and need to finish strong during the final two regular-season series vs. Ole Miss on the road and Mississippi State at home to earn a top 5 finish in the SEC standings and a double-bye in the SEC Tournament.

Before the Aggies dropped Saturday’s doubleheader, no one can dispute that Texas A&M is one of the best teams in the country, but like every program, coach Mike Earley and pitching coach Jason Kelley continue to deal with a pitching staff that continues to deal with depth-related issues, while Friday starter Shane Sdao has struggled in nearly every start with an ERA over 6.

Still, it’s clear that the Aggies possess one of the best overall reśumes with a reported 12 Quad 1 victories, tied with Alabama for the fifth most nationally, while the Florida Gators, who the Aggies defeated 2-1 on the road two weekends ago, lead the country with an impressive 15 Quad 1 victories.

With two more Quad 1 opportunities to finish the regular season, winning both series vs. Ole Miss and Mississippi State will be a massive challenge, but if Earley and Kelly make the assumed change to the starting pitching staff, switching Aiden Sims to Friday and Weston Moss to Friday, while optioning Shane Sdao for Sunday, could result in the Aggies looking like a complete team.
