Hale Center and Lamesa each wrapped up its time at the 7-on-7 football state tournament Friday at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station.
The Owls, making their first appearance at state, beat Wolfe City 28-16 in the opening round of the Division III bracket. Poth edged Hale Center 21-18 in the second round to end the Owls’ tournament.
Tidehaven beat Ganado 34-21 in the final to win the D-III championship. The Owls were in the same pool as Ganado on Thursday.
Graham eliminated Lamesa with a 25-0 win in the first round of the D-II bracket. The Golden Tornadoes were 1-3 overall in the tournament.
Frisco Panther Creek took down Kilgore 32-26 in the D-II title game.
With the 7-on-7 season concluded, preparation for the fall continues. The first formal practices are allowed Aug. 4. Hale Center opens the season Aug. 29 at Ropes. Lamesa will host Littlefield the same night.
