After a short stint with the Tennessee Titans, former Longhorns safety Jerrin Thompson is looking for a new home.
Thompson had been signed to an undrafted free-agent deal on Monday but was released to make room for UConn wide receiver TJ Sheffield and former Baylor and TCU tight end Drake Dabney. The Texas native will now be looking to catch on with another team before the start of the regular season.
Thompson spent the first four years of his college career with Texas before transferring to Auburn. During his time as a Longhorn, he recorded 176 total tackles and 18 pass breakups in 49 games. The 23-year-old also added five interceptions to his resume, including one pick-six.
After a successful run in Austin, Thompson transferred to Auburn for the last year of his college career. He recorded 65 total tackles and two interceptions in his only year as a Tiger. Due to his play in the SEC, Thompson became a popular player after going undrafted.

Although Thompson’s next step is uncertain, he was a very good player in college. In one of the most competitive conferences, he held his own. That should help him earn an opportunity for an NFL team in need of help defensively.
As Thompson continued to work on his craft, he has plenty of resources to look to for advice. He was teammates with 10 Longhorns were selected who were selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, including Jahdae Barron, Alfred Collins, and Vernon Broughton. That is not a bad group to turn to.
With the start of the regular season months away, Thompson still has plenty of time to carve out a role in a new organization.
