A recent study is ranking Anthony, New Mexico at the top when it comes to the safest cities in the Land of Enchantment.
Anthony ranked at No. 1 for New Mexico’s Safest Cities of 2026 in a study by SafeWise, a home security research group, finishing ahead of nearby Sunland Park, which landed at No. 4. Anthony’s low crime rates helped earn the top ranking, with 0.8 violent crimes and 2.4 property crimes per 1,000 residents.
While Anthony ranks at the top, the study noted that for the second year in a row, New Mexico has the lowest percentage of residents (28%) who report feeling safe. The state also ranked 20th for the percentage of people who have increased their safety and security measures.
“The violent crime rate in New Mexico is 8.78 incidents per 1,000 people, which is nearly double the national average of 4.43 and the fourth highest in the nation,” the report said.
In Anthony, property crime rates have decreased the last two years in a row, while violent crime rates have decreased the last two years in a row in Sunland Park, according to the study.
