The battle for the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana has officially come to an end, as five-star ATH Lamar Brown committed to LSU on Thursday afternoon, much to the dismay of Texas A&M fans clamoring for another top-rated recruit.
It was a long, hard-fought and competitive recruiting war between Texas A&M, Texas, Miami and LSU, but it all came to a screeching halt as the Tigers reigned in another standout defensive lineman from the 2026 class. Brown took official visits to all four campuses, including seven trips to Bryan-College Station, Texas, which was thought to have placed an advantage in the Maroon and White’s court. There is truly no place like home, however.
This does not spell the end of the hopes that Brown will one day play at Kyle Field. With Texas A&M’s history of sending defensive linemen to the NFL, all possibilities of the Baton Rouge native switching his commitment are not lost until he signs the dotted line during Early Signing Day on December 4.
Ranked as the No. 7 recruit in the nation by 247 Sports, the 6-foot-4-inch and 285-pounder has innate abilities that allow him to be versatile on the gridiron. Brown will make a significant contribution to any squad he joins, as the former MaxPreps Junior All-America first-team selection boasts a stout build that enables him to wreak havoc on the line.
While his commitment was made official on a national stage Thursday at the U-High gym on LSU’s campus, there were plenty of reactions from media members, fans and college football enthusiasts across the country.
