Social media reacts to DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson's injury at Texans' practice

Houston Texans fans are holding their breath waiting to hear the news surrounding defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson following his lower-body injury suffered during the final day of training camp at The Greenbrier in West Virginia.

Gardner-Johnson, who was expected to be the missing link for the defense in coverage opposite All-Pro defensive back Derek Stingley Jr. and Jalen Pitre, was helped into a cart while unable to put any weight on the right leg after trying to make a tackle on wide receiver John Metchie III during the team’s scrimmage. Practice went silent as Gardner-Johnson was attended to by team medical staff.

“It’s heartbreaking when you see a guy go down on the field like that and doesn’t get up quickly,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “I’m always nervous as a head coach when I see anyone hit the ground. It’s tough to watch. We’ll evaluate C.J., see where he is.”

Acquired in the offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for offensive lineman Kenyon Green and a 2026 fifth-round pick, Gardner-Johnson was in line for another breakout season. He was a key member of the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning team last season, posting a team-leading six interceptions.

Social media isn’t taking the news well. Here’s a look at some of the responses following the news from White Sulphur Springs:
