From diners to lounges, new businesses open in May around El Paso

El Pasoans who remember Elmer’s fried chicken might want to head to Elmer’s Dinner, which recently opened in Central El Paso.

Management at Elmer’s Dinner, at 1730 Montana Ave., said the restaurant is owned by different owners but has the same menu concept. The former Elmer’s Family Restaurant at 6305 Montana Ave. closed in 2019 after 74 years in business.

The new restaurant is spacious with friendly servers who are willing to recommend signature dishes such as the fried chicken tenders and chicken sandwiches and burgers. The menu also features breakfast, seafood and Mexican food dishes.

I tried the grilled chicken sandwich, which came open-faced with tator tots or French fries. The chicken breast was juicy and made for a satisfying lunch.
