How do average SAT and ACT scores compare to a school’s US News & World Report Academic Ranking? Most of the time, the two are roughly similar. But there are anomalies.
Aside from Rice, the University of Texas has the top academic ranking AND SAT scores in the State. It is very similar in the SEC. UT just sits behind Vanderbilt in both measures.
The SAT is a widely used standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States that debuted in 1926. The ACT, founded in 1959, is similar. The questions are a little different. Think of them like Coke and Pepsi. Coke is dominant, but a lot of people drink Pepsi.
The SAT is typically taken by high school students and is intended to measure literacy, numeracy and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college. The better the test scores, the more prestigious and academically respected the admittance.
