The city of Rockport is alerting residents and businesses that they may receive fraudulent invoices and applications.
The false documents refer to construction projects, zoning-related applications or other city-related matters and request payment through wire transfer, according to a news release from the city of Rockport.
However, city staff warns that these are not real communications, and although recipients may notice the documents display the city seal, other details show they are not official, the news release said.
Anyone who receives such an invoice or request should not respond or send payment, the news release said.
They should delete the message immediately and change their passwords as a precaution, the news release said.
The city also urges residents and businesses to verify invoices, applications or payment requests by contacting Shelley Goodwin, the city secretary, at 361-729-2213 ext. 225 or sgoodwin@rockporttx.gov.
