The Houston Rockets are signing North Carolina State guard/wing Quadir Copeland to a two-way contract, according to multiple reports on Wednesday night.
The Rockets had an open two-way slot after converting JD Davison to a standard contract late in the 2025-26 regular season.
Copeland, 22, was in NBA draft consideration throughout Wednesday’s second round before ultimately going undrafted. That gave him the ability to choose his initial NBA home.
NBA.com’s draft profile of Copeland, who stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 200 pounds, reads as follows:
Copeland projects as a backup ballhandler who can run an offense, pressure the rim, and create advantages for teammates. His size, vision, and driving ability give him a path to minutes as a second-unit initiator who keeps defenses honest and generates easy looks for shooters. Copeland draws NBA comparisons to Stephon Castle, Amen Thompson, and Baron Davis. Copeland’s development arc, from a three-star recruit who barely played as a freshman to one of the best passers in the ACC as a senior, will likely appeal to NBA teams interested in drafting and developing him.
Copeland joins Ohio State guard Bruce Thornton, who the Rockets drafted early in the second round, as new entries to Houston’s 2026-27 roster pool.
Both are likely to be prominently featured in July when the Rockets open play at the 2026 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Established backcourt options on the 2026-27 Rockets include Fred VanVleet, Reed Sheppard, and Amen Thompson.
