After days of overcast skies and rain causing flash flooding in parts of El Paso, thunderstorms are expected to tapper off as we head into the 4th of July.
Drier air will move into the region on Friday, July 4, making for warmer and sunnier conditions, said Bladen Breitreiter, senior forecaster with the National Weather Service. El Pasoans may wake up to a few clouds Friday morning, but weather is expected to warm as the day progresses.
“Right now we are in a messy, soggy monsoon pattern, but were expecting high pressure to kick in as we go into the latter part of the work week,” Breitreiter said. “So we’ll see the coverage of storms to decrease significantly as we go into Friday afternoon and Friday night.”
Weather conditions shouldn’t impact firework displays on Friday night, Breitreiter added.
If you’re celebrating Independence Day with outdoor activities, temperatures may be hotter than you expect after these cooler, overcast days — Friday is expected to warm into the mid-90s.
“Stay aware of the heat and make sure you stay hydrated if you’re outdoors,” Breitreiter said.
