As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player’s background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko.
Desmond “Dezz” Ricks was expected to contribute in 2024, but injuries thrust him into a starting role. His performance had highs and lows, about what you’d expect from a redshirt freshman adapting to a new coaching staff and system.
With the additions of Julian Humphrey and Tyreek Chappell, the battle for the third cornerback spot will come down to who can be the most consistent. Coach Elko was vocal about his disappointment in the secondary’s play at the end of the 2024 season and has made it clear that improvement is a top priority. With another year in the system, Ricks is poised to take a significant step forward and help shore up the back end of the defense.

Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2023)
The former five-star prospect signed with Alabama out of high school as one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. He spent most of his senior year in the slot at the nationally recognized IMG Academy. After a season in Tuscaloosa, Ricks transferred to Texas A&M following Nick Saban’s retirement.
Depth Chart Outlook
With the passing game more prominent than ever, and new rules emphasizing player safety, it’s now common to have three cornerbacks on the field. Ricks appeared in all 13 games last season, starting nine. Despite incoming talent, he’ll have every opportunity to secure a starting role or remain a critical depth piece for the Aggies in 2025.
