The contract states that Kuhn will be reassigned to the position of superintendent advisor to the newly appointed superintendent, Joseph Waldron, who is contracted to begin his new position on June 1.

Kuhn will be reassigned to the position of superintendent advisor on May 29 until his official resignation date of June 30.

In the position, Kuhn will act exclusively in an advisory role and will have no administrative duties, responsibilities or authorities related to the operation of the school district, the contract said. Kuhn will be provided with an office space, computer and other equipment deemed necessary to fulfill his role.

The contract states Kuhn will receive his full salary and benefits through his resignation date, and by staying till June 30th, 2026, Kuhn will receive $15,000 — part of longevity pay stated in his original employment contract with the district.

Kuhn’s annual base salary is listed as $300,000 in his employment contract, so he will receive $25,000 during his role as advisor.

Benefits for being superintendent included the district paying memberships to two local civic organizations, the American Association of School Administrators and the Texas Association of School Administrators. Kuhn was also provided with a cell phone, health insurance and legal defense if necessary.

Kuhn was originally contracted to stay in the role of superintendent until June 30, 2028, but he is stepping down due to health reasons after suffering a heart attack on Dec 30.

With the school district singing high praises to Kuhn, the resignation agreement states that he is welcome to continue employment with Abilene ISD under a new role.

Most of the contract is related to a series of legal actions should listed circumstances arise.

The contract states Kuhn has agreed not to sue the district, AISD School Board members, or employees. The School Board has agreed not to sue Kuhn in relation to his employment by the district.
