Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash on North Mirror Street

A 74-year-old man was killed Sunday night, Oct. 5, after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on North Mirror Street, according to the Amarillo Police Department.

Police said officers were dispatched around 11:18 p.m. to the 700 block of North Mirror on a report of a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian. When they arrived, officers found the man lying in the northbound lanes.

Investigators determined the man had been pushing a wheelchair and was crossing Mirror Street from east to west when he was hit. The suspect vehicle did not stop.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Potter County Justice of the Peace Robert Taylor ordered an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation by the department’s Traffic Investigation Squad. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect vehicle is urged to contact the Amarillo Police Department or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400.
