Northbound lanes on the new Harbor Bridge will open July 8.

The announcement came a week after a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place atop the new structure, marking the opening of its southbound lanes June 28.

From 7 p.m. to midnight July 6, a northbound U.S. 181 main-lane reduction will take place from Burleson Street to Beach Avenue on North Beach, according to a news release issued July 4 by Flatiron/Dragados, the developer of the bridge.

The following day, for 24 hours starting at 9 a.m., there will be a full closure of northbound State Highway 286. All traffic will be detoured to the Agnes Street/Laredo Street exit.

Motorists should expect delays and avoid the area during the closure.

Early morning on July 8, commuters heading north on SH 286, and from Interstate 37 to Portland, will be switched onto the new Harbor Bridge U.S. 181 northbound lanes.

Access to the pedestrian shared-use path on the bridge will open on the south side of the structure at Lake Street sometime next week. The path will remain partially closed until the U.S. 181 alignment is complete on North Beach.

Drivers are encouraged to proceed slowly and follow new signage for the following routes:
