A Walk in the Park is an ongoing series from State Journal photographer Nick King, who intends to explore Lansing area parks one hour at a time. If you have a suggestion of a park he should visit, email him at nking@lsj.com.
Veterans Memorial Gardens in Delhi Township is a great park for a leisurely stroll, taking in the beautiful assortment of flowers or to reflect and honor military veterans who made sacrifices for our freedom.
The 5½ acre park, at 2074 N. Aurelius Road in Holt, features a veterans memorial as its focal point. A hexagon stone structure features a tribute to each of the four main military branches — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines — as well as the Merchant Marines and Coast Guard.
In addition to the veterans memorial, the park has a paved sidewalk that runs from the entrance behind the Delhi Township government building to a second entrance to the park on Cedar Street.
There are plenty of different types of colorful flowers on display around the park and in dedicated beds. There are open spaces to roam and mature trees that provide shade.
There is a covered pavilion and permanent bathrooms on site.
There’s plenty of parking at the entrance off Aurelius Road. Leashed dogs are welcome.
