The Texas Tech Red Raiders got some great news earlier this month when it was confirmed that star JT Toppin would be returning for another season after tearing his ACL just before the NCAA Tournament this spring.
Now, as gears start to get into motion and the basketball season gets bigger on the horizon, we are starting to learn more about one of the biggest tournaments upcoming for the Red Raiders.
The Players Era 16, which will be played in Las Vegas over the week of Thanksgiving, released its first-round game times for the tournament, with Texas Tech playing the Louisville Cardinals on November 24 at 8 p.m. ET. If Tech wins, it will move on to face either the Oregon Ducks or the St. John’s Red Storm.
The 24-team event, held in Las Vegas, will consist of two tournament-style brackets—one with eight teams and one with 16 teams—held over two weekends. Texas Tech will play in the 16-team bracket, which will be contested from Nov. 24-28 at both T-Mobile Arena and Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
The Red Raiders and Cardinals will be meeting for the third time ever, with Tech owning a 2-0 all-time record after wins at the 2022 Maui Invitational and the 2019 Jimmy V Classic. Tech is coming off its third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Grant McCasland and finished last season with a 23-11 overall record.
