Mack Brown visits Texas football coaches Will Muschamp, Blake Gideon

Mack Brown is living his best life. After parting ways with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Brown and his wife Sally quickly moved back to Austin. The former national championship winning coach has become the Professor Emeritus to the UT program. Much like Darrell K Royal was with Brown. Brown even checks in on his own coaches and players at practice.

Brown has made the rounds. He met Arch Manning at a UT basketball game and even hosts a weekly podcast with Vince Young called “The Stampede.” His X.com timeline is filled with golf with former players, Brown at UT events and highlighting former players and UT athletics as a whole. He has become the athletic department’s benevolent grandfather, a role he was born for.

Mack has always had a kind aura. He was a players coach that charmed boosters and fans alike … once he finally got past Oklahoma.

One benefit of Brown’s status as Professor Emeritus is he can drop by Longhorns practice. Yesterday was the first day Will Muschamp spoke to the media. Brown was on hand to reminisce about old times together on the Forty Acres.

Muschamp was Texas’ defensive coordinator under Mack Brown over 15 years ago before leaving to become the head coach at Florida.

Mack was also able to catch up with Blake Gideon. Gideon, a four-year safety at Texas, played for Muschamp in Austin. He was the safeties coach for Steve Sarkisian until 2025, when he left for Atlanta to become the defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech. Now he’s back as Muschamp’s main lieutenant.
