Lubbock sheriff confirms 1 dead in house fire with igniting ammunition

Officials confirmed one person was found dead inside a home following a structure fire that ignited ammunition Friday morning in Lubbock County.

The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at 8:22 a.m. Friday in the 5300 block of North County Road 1700, finding a single-story house fully engulfed, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Ammunition stored inside the home was also igniting and deputies were unable to immediately enter the home.

The Shallowater Fire Department, Wolfforth Fire Department, Ransom Canyon Fire Department, Abernathey Fire Department, Idalou Fire Department, and New Deal Fire Department all responded to the scene as well as officers from the Department of Public Safety.

Firefighters were able to control the fire and make entry into the home, finding one person dead inside.

Officials have not identified the person who died, pending the ongoing investigation.

The Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Office will be reviewing their cause of death, and the Lubbock Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the blaze.
