Lubbock ISD announced the 2025 class for its Athletics Hall of Honor on Wednesday. The group includes seven individuals and two state-champion teams. The honorees will be inducted at a ceremony July 26 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
Here’s a look at this year’s inductees.
LUBBOCK ISD HALL OF HONOR CLASS OF 2025
Rocky Alburtis, Monterey baseball, 1973-75
Alburtis was an all-America selection in 1975, hitting .438 with 15 home runs and 55 RBI. He finished with 29 career home runs, a Monterey record.
Wayne Dotson, Estacado baseball, 1979-83
Dotson had a career pitching record of 46-9 and three times made the all-state team. He was a top prospect, going No. 15 overall to the Detroit Tigers in the 1983 MLB draft.
Clarence Leroy Goodnight Sr., Lubbock High track, 1916-18
Goodnight was the first state champion in LISD. He won state titles in the mile, 440 and 880 meters.
Ron Holihan, Lubbock ISD swimming and aquatics director, 1986-2020
Holihan received a lifetime achievement award from the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association in 2012. He was a two-time regional and three-time district coach of the year. Holihan was a construction consultant for LISD’s Pete Ragus Aquatic Center, which opened in 1998.
Ronald “Bubba” Kinner, Dunbar baseball, football, track; 1967-70
Kinner was a three-sport standout, making the high school all-America team in baseball. He was a second-round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Max O’Banion, Lubbock ISD leadership and support, 1955-86
O’Banion, the namesake for Coronado’s baseball field, held many roles within LISD, beginning with Lubbock High basketball coach. After retiring from coaching, he served in administration at LHS and later Coronado.
Amanda Parsons, Coronado softball, 2004-07
Parsons was a three-time all-state selection, starting every game from her freshman season on. She is Coronado’s career hits leader with a batting average better than .400 and 22 home runs. Parsons was Lubbock Christian University’s first signee.
Coronado team tennis, 2003
Coronado won LISD’s first state championship in team tennis. The Mustangs, coached by Hall of Honor member Jim Carter, finished 29-1 after beating Plano West 10-6 in the state final.
Monterey baseball, 1981
Monterey finished 38-4 after beating reigning state-champion Pearland 7-3 in the final. The Plainsmen set state-tournament records with nine stolen bases in the semifinal and 12 total.
