Lubbock A-J staff honored at TME contest for sports, feature coverage

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal won four awards and honors in the Texas Managing Editors and Headliners Foundation of Texas journalism excellence awards, TME organizers recently announced.

The awards and recognitions were announced online April 25 and 26 as part of TME’s convention in El Paso.

The Avalanche-Journal staff received the following awards and honors in Class 2A:

3rd place in Comment and Criticism to Alana Edgin and Mateo Rosiles for “Here’s which Lubbock coffee shops have the best fall flavor drinks in 2025.” Texas Tech Daily Toreador editors Jacob Lujan and Aynsley Larsen, contributed to this piece. Larsen was also a summer intern for the Avalanche-Journal in 2025.

2nd place in Sports Column Writing to Don Williams for his work, including:

3rd place in Sports Column Writing to Nathan Giese for his work, including:

“Joey McGuire’s vision for Texas Tech football has come to fruition”

“An exhausting day covering Texas Tech football, College GameDay reminds me how lucky I am”

Honorable mention in Sports Photography to Nathan Giese for photojournalism coverage of Texas Tech sports in 2025.
