One year ago, Long John Silver’s made its anticipated return to Amarillo, and the community showed up in a big way.
Crowds lined up and cars were bumper-to-bumper along Bell Avenue to Amarillo High School. And that was just the first day. The fish frenzy went on for months and Long John Silver’s broke records for the company’s grand opening.
Now the iconic brand is celebrating one year in the area by thanking the community that made the initial opening so special.
On Aug. 15, guests can purchase a two-piece fish or chicken basket with waffle fries and two hushpuppies and receive a second basket free. The anniversary offer is available in-store only at the Amarillo location, with no substitutions.
Long John Silver’s marks one year in Amarillo
According to the Amarillo Globe-News Story on August 14, 2025, General Manager Luis Martinez said the restaurant reeled in a whopping $32,000 with the second day bringing in a bigger net.
“We have maintained at least $25,000 daily,” Martinez said at the time.
And the well-established, practiced team never ran out of anything.
They had a two-month supply stocked, and they were surprised when they sold more chicken than fish. But then, we are landlubbers here in the heart of the Panhandle.
At that time, they were ordering about 4-5 cases a truck. And they had good success with their cheesecakes also.
Sales continue to be solid and steady as the restaurant flourishes, according to management.
Long John Silver’s history in Amarillo
Long John Silver’s had been a presence in Amarillo around 20 years ago with several establishments around the city. But poor management and failing quality caused the restaurants to close. Since then, the hunger for the crispy fish grew and a new franchise took over, causing the primary owner, James Bryan, to take notice. Bryan also has the franchise for Kentucky Fried Chicken in Amarillo.
The restaurant was supposed to open in early July of 2025, but due to delivery issues and inspection delays, the anticipation grew until it finally was able to open its doors and welcome in the hordes of customers.
